Mechanical Properties Enhancement of the Au-Cu-Al Alloys via Phase Constitution Manipulation

To enhance the mechanical properties (e.g., strength and elongation) of face-centered cubic (fcc) α-phase in Au-Cu-Al system, this study focused on introduction martensite phase (doubled B19 (DB19) crystal structure Au2CuAl) via manipulation alloy compositions. Fundamental evaluations, such as microstructure observations, identifications, thermal analysis, tensile behavior examinations, reflectance have been conducted. The presence fcc annealing twins was observed both optical microscope (OM) scanning electron (SEM) images. Both elongation alloys were greatly promoted while DB19 introduced into alloys. Amongst all prepared specimens, 47Au41Cu12Al 44Au44Cu12Al performed optimized properties. enhancement ductility these two achieved stress plateau during deformation. A plot ultimate (UTS) against fracture strain constructed to illustrate effects Regardless compositions phase, stayed almost identical pure Au.
